Free-Free, Fixed or Other Test Boundary Conditions for the Best Modal Test?

چکیده
Deciding on the configuration in which to test a structure is an important consideration which needs to be addressed before a test is carried out. Since the evolution of the modal test, there are several test configurations free-free, fixed, added-mass, amongst othersthat have been developed and used. However, the free-free test configuration remains the most favoured for most applications since it is easy to achieve this configuration in practice. In this paper, different test configurations are compared and their benefits and limitations for the respective applications are discussed. It is also shown by using a simple study that information obtained from a free-free test is not adequate to validate mathematical models for certain applications. In these cases alternative test configurations are suggested and their ability to provide modal information for model validation are discussed.

Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Composite Laminated Conical Shells under Different Boundary Conditions Via Galerkin Method
In this paper, natural frequency and response of forced vibration of composite laminated conical shells under different boundary conditions are investigated. To this end, equations of Donnell's thin shell theory are used as governing equations. The analytical Galerkin method together with beam mode shapes as weighting functions is employed to solve the problem. Due to importance of boundary con...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Free Vibration Analysis of Hybrid Stiffened Fiber Metal Laminated Circular Cylindrical Shell
The modal testing has proven to be an effective and non-destructive test method for estimation of the dynamic stiffness and damping constant. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the modal response of stiffened Fiber Metal Laminated (FML) circular cylindrical shells using experimental and numerical techniques. For this purpose, three types of FML-stiffened shells are fabricated by a s...
متن کاملDiscrepancies Between Free Vibration of FML and Composite Cylindrical Shells Reinforced by CNTs
In this study, discrepancies between the free vibration of fiber-metal laminate (FML) and composite cylindrical shells reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based on Love’s first approximation shell theory have been considered by beam modal function model. The representative volume elements consist of three and four phases for composite and FML structures, respectively, which include fiber, CNT...

In this research, the modal parameters of a beam in free-free condition are extracted by performing different experiments in laboratory. For this purpose, two different techniques are employed. The first methodology is considered as a time domain method in Operational Modal Analysis. While the other one is frequency domain impact hammer test which is categorized as an Experimental Modal Analysi...
متن کاملA Simple and Systematic Approach for Implementing Boundary Conditions in the Differential Quadrature Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Beams and Rectangular Plates
This paper presents a simple and systematic way for imposing boundary conditions in the differential quadrature free and forced vibration analysis of beams and rectangular plates. First, the Dirichlet- and Neumann-type boundary conditions of the beam (or plate) are expressed as differential quadrature analog equations at the grid points on or near the boundaries. Then, similar to CBCGE (direct ...
